Do you know all of the hunger games characters?
(Note; Some characters have almost no information in the book or on other websites, so i can't give much.)
Our main protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, is the life of the story. If you didn't already know (which, you REALLY should), Katniss Everdeen has the typical background of a lot of protagonists; She came from a poor family, barely passed by with supplies, very distant (emotionally) from her parents, blah blah blah. The point is, Katniss Everdeen uses her keen senses combined with hunting and food smarts to come out on top. The sad truth, though, is Katniss is kind of derivative of other characters in many other books. Example; the somehow scrawny girl who could barely survive and made meager amounts of food, managed to kill four tributes and win the Hunger Games. Sound familiar? Yeah, it does. Sounds like a mixture of Winston Smith from "1984" and William Wallace in female form. Nevertheless, Katniss Everdeen is truly the one who kept the Hunger Games alive.
Haymitch Abernathy is our favorite middle aged drunkard. He pretty much turned to drinking after winning the 50th Hunger Games. While not a protagonist, he's not an antagonist either, and doesn't entirely qualify as in the middle. He's one confusing guy, that Haymitch. Haymitch grew up in District 12 (obviously), but he quietly sits in the Victor's Village, wasting away on white liquor. (That must be good... he always drinks it...) When it comes to mentoring Katniss and Peeta, the guy just doesn't care... in the beginning. But, his heart, his big, drunk heart, opens up for the two and helps them. Haymitch isn't your average character, to be honest. If you look hard enough, you might see some kind of character from a different book, but I don't.
Peeta Mellark is the typical book character. The guy who falls in love with the girl and it gets really serious... for him. When he finds out the girl doesn't love him back, he freaks. There are sooooooooo many characters I could list here that Peeta is exactly like, but the list is way too long. I'm just saying, Peeta could've had more traits that made him actually kind of original. Now, I don't hate Peeta, but he's just sooo... not original... I don't really know how to express that part any more. What's funny about this character, though, is that he's big and buff, yet, is afraid and pretty much gives up living.
Gale Hawthorne is the favorite guy. At least among girls anyway. To be honest, I like this guy more than Peeta, he would've been much better in the Hunger Games. Gale is Katniss' hunting partner obviously, so they would make the perfect partners in the Hunger Games. This guy has a bit of affection towards Katniss, but he does a better job at hiding it and wouldn't completely freak out and start hating her if he found out that she doesn't love him back.
Effie Trinket took make-up way too far and is kind of heartless, but honestly, we all love her. She somehow takes enthusiasm in every single thing. I don't know why, but that just makes her really loveable. Effie's Capitol attitude somehow did not effect her understanding of the two tributes. Even though she had guessed that her tributes would die, she still tried to help and did quite a great job.
Rue is the epitome of the loveable little scoundrel. Rue was Katniss' partner for a while, but she immediately made us readers like her. She was little and fun, but legitimately tried to avoid violence overall and make friends... even in the arena. Honestly, it worked quite well, which means her death was even sadder. Rue was an advanced little agriculturalist who hung with the Mockingjays (not the fishes). Honestly, I think in the book (and the movie a bit) that Rue's death was a bit over-reacted on Katniss' part. Now, I'm not saying Katniss should've been written as heartless in that moment, but I don't think she should've been freaking out and screaming. But that's just my opinion.
Everyone remembers Marvel as the jerk who killed Rue, but I go a bit more in depth than that. Considering he was smart enough to set up a net to catch the "fire-starters" and watched on the sidelines waiting for the kill, he seemed a bit above the cut of the other careers. To be honest, the careers weren't much more than brute strength, but Marvel stepped out of that bubble. He was pretty much the only career who used smarts and tactics, so I liked him more. Now, I'm not saying I love the guy and he was my favorite character, but at least he wasn't completely crappy.
Glimmer is the rough and tough volunteer from District Two. Glimmer didn't have much of a background available, so I can't go too in depth in that, but obviously, I can give my opinion on what I know. Glimmer, unlike her partner, didn't really use any tactics. The best tactic she used was yelling at Cato to climb Katniss' safe tree faster. Yeah. Glimmer was killed off pretty quickly with not much screen time though. Suzanne Collins' must've not thought she was important.
Crazy cat lady? Nope. Crazy knife lady. Once again, not much screen time, but Clove's scenes had us on the edge of our seats. I personally think she was literally crazy because how she acted and reacted in the games. Clove herself must've been hidden away for a long time, because she wasn't mentioned even as much as the career pack, which means she might have actually been kind of a coward. Just maybe. Either way, the knife throwing girl made the story brighter, whether or not she had a lot of screen time.
I'm pretty sure Cato was everyone's least favorite career. Even in a weak, bloodied state (at the end of the book) he managed to almost kill Peeta and scare the crap out the of two 12's. Cato had almost killed the two winning tributes on separate occasions, so I give him props. For not giving up (at least until the end anyway) and being quite terrifying in the games, which is probably an extremely difficult task. Granted, at the end, I hated Cato immensely for his weak actions. He would rather kill Peeta and himself than losing alone. Really?!
Foxface's mentions were quite interesting. She was very stealthy and managed to sneak around tributes without being noticed. Literally five feet away. Quite impressive. Foxface's death was quite understandable and was actually quite different from the other deaths, for it involved absolutely no violence at all. Foxface was barely in the book though, except for slight mentions, so there is almost no information I can give.
Thresh was only in the book as the guy who saved Katniss really. He was in depth and truly cared, 100%, about his partner Rue, which made me not hate the character. Sadly though, Thresh had almost no appearances at all and no information was given on the character's subject.
